- 1 Turn off your PS5 immediately from the power button or console menu.
- 2 Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet to cut off electricity completely.
- 3 Do NOT turn it back on under any circumstances until you bring it to service for dust cleaning and liquid metal replacement.

How should the PS5 console be kept: standing (vertical) or lying down (horizontal)?
Our firm recommendation is to keep the console in a HORIZONTAL (lying down) position.
Although Sony markets the console vertically (standing up), over time, gravity and heat can cause the liquid metal on the APU to pool at the bottom. This leaves dry spots on the top portion of the processor, leading to rapid overheating during demanding games. Furthermore, any liquid metal overflow past the protective seal can short-circuit and permanently damage the motherboard.
Why does the PS5 require Liquid Metal instead of standard thermal paste?
The PlayStation 5 APU generates extreme heat in a very small area. Liquid metal has up to 8 times higher thermal conductivity than standard high-performance thermal paste. Applying standard thermal paste to a PS5 will cause the console to overheat and shut down within minutes of playing a game.
What are the signs that my console needs cleaning or a liquid metal refresh?
